Savoy Cafe Restaurant - Katoomba

Favourite café in Katoomba was closed, so we went in search of another to try. I hadn't been to the Savoy for years, and this was a very disappointing experience.The café looks dirty, and cluttered. Mops near the counter, and dirty clothes under the clean glasses for water.Staff seemed disinterested, and menu was dirty, and well worn.The Savoy used to be a regular of mine, but will not be returning.

This is not fine dining, the breakfasts are basic, but at a reasonable price. We had poached eggs on toast and avocado on toast. All in all the food was fine, but noting exciting!

Pluses: Huge breakfast, pleasant buzzy atmosphere, attentive on-the-ball waitress. Special diet needs catered for. Enjoyed the bacon and eggs--nicely cooked. Minuses: The hash browns both look and taste like those McDonalds triangles. The coffee was the low point. We both enjoy good coffee, and we found the flat white unaccountably weak and the long black bitterly strong to the point of being undrinkable. By combining our 2 unappealing coffees, we managed each to have something palatable. But not a great way to have breakfast.

This is the place for breakfast in Katoomba - Highly recommended are the poach eggs - The cook has nailed this elusive art ;-)

If you are a big eater then this place is for you with it's big servings. I wanted to order some sides but the waitress told me its not necessary as my burger and fries is 'massive'. Good advice too, we could barely finish it.
