Cafe Zeytoon - Newcastle

While visiting my mum in Newcastle we booked to take her here for dinner. My partner & I are visiting Iran in September for a holiday and wanted to try a taste of Persian food. Service was genuinely friendly and attentive. The food spoke for itself. We chose a banquet to share. All of our dishes were delicious and full of such flavour. All of the individual elements combined to create an amazing taste. Such fresh ingredients. Good sized serves, so good value for money. All of the staff worked well together to create a great team that showed in their presentation and interaction with the customers. Will definitely return the next time we are in Newcastle.

I wanted to try this place for some time and was very disappointed when I did. We had the banquet and every dish apart from the eggplant was very bad. We should have taken note of many other customers only having 1 dish then leaving before we committed to a series of unpalatable dishes. Not only is it quite expensive but poor value for money for flavor combinations that just didn't work and food that could have made us sick. One "hot" dish was undercooked and cold, our confit duck was one Maryland cut in half.... terrible value.....whilst the prawns we had we left on the plate as their black heads alerted us to them not being fresh and it wasn't worth the risk to eat. We told staff however no compensation or care was given to our complaint and they were happy to charge us for dishes left untouched.Save your money, and your palate, and eat elsewhere.

Have been to this restaurant several times since it first opened under another name. The food continues to improve and unable to fault the dishes we had. Great flavours and textures, nicely presented. Will definitely be back, looking forward to new menu soon.

We were warned by the wait staff that it was a busy night, but it took 2 hours for one of our mains to come out. There were only 2 people on the floor and they were clearly flustered-apologising profusely for mix-ups and long waits. The mains were really nice, but the dips and olives were barely edible (humus was tasteless). The staff were really polite, but I won't be going back any time soon!

The owner is very welcoming and helpful. However, the food is a little expensive for what you get. They could do more to advertise it as I have been coming to Newcastle regularly for the last five years but not noticed it until recently.
