When we went to the ETAP restaurant at Operngasse 14/1, we thought the restaurant looked clean and welcoming. So when we were asked for a non-smoking table, we were led to the back of the restaurant and said it was the non-smoking area. She assured us we were only allowed to smoke in front of the restaurant. We ordered starter cold, a mixed starter plate (14,00 Euro) and Tavuk Kofte, grilled chicken dish (10,90 Euro). As we finished the plate, some people started smoking at the table next to us. A man even kept his cigarette away from his table and let them point in our direction. When I asked our waiter why this should happen, he said that they do not really have a separate non-smoking area, which was not what we were originally told. He put the ventilation on, but it didn't make any difference. It was so disgusting. Later we found out from a taxi driver that if a restaurant is more than 70 square meters, they must have a separate non-smoking area. This restaurant has clearly not observed this regulation. The food was okay, but I feel very angry about money for a meal that was ruined. If we knew about smoking, we would have eaten NIE here!
